FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Stuttgart, Germany – 22nd July 2025

Abstract, a deep-tech company pioneering cutting-edge 3D and AI technology solutions, proudly announces the official release of InstaMAT 2025, graduating from Early Access. The release introduces revolutionary physically-based terrain generation, enhanced layering workflows, advanced curve tools, an improved viewport with real-time raytracing, an integration with Polyverse, and much more.

Unlocking Creative Depth with Layer References and Mask Filters

Asset texturing workflows allow artists to creatively texture 3D assets by building up materials one layer at a time, and the introduction of Layer References takes this process to the next level. By allowing layers higher in the stack to access and manipulate data from layers below, artists can now create sophisticated procedural effects that respond dynamically to underlying textures or masks.

For example, damage buildup or embossing effects can reference base layers and evolve organically as changes are made — something difficult to achieve in many traditional texturing workflows. This procedural referencing enables iterative, non-destructive workflows that empower artists to experiment without fear of losing earlier work or wasting precious time.

The addition of mask filters, including blur and warp effects, further enhances texturing possibilities. These filters allow procedural modification of masks to generate complex patterns and naturalistic wear effects, enabling artists to blend stylized and photorealistic details seamlessly.

Together, Layer References and Mask Filters significantly deepen InstaMAT’s procedural texturing capabilities, unlocking creative freedom and efficiency in crafting high-quality, layered materials and textured assets.

Transforming Terrain Creation in InstaMAT

InstaMAT 2025 introduces a groundbreaking procedural terrain system that empowers artists to generate, texture, and populate entire landscapes within a single, unified node graph. This all-in-one approach eliminates the need to juggle multiple applications or export assets between programs, significantly simplifying the pipeline and accelerating iteration times.

At its core, the terrain system features powerful erosion simulations that replicate natural thermal and water-based processes, controlled through simple, intuitive sliders. Artists can also simulate realistic rivers and snow coverage using geographic data and seasonal inputs, bringing dynamic environmental effects to life.

Complementing terrain shaping, InstaMAT’s procedural placement system intelligently scatters vegetation, rocks, and other assets across the landscape. With collision detection and density controls informed by terrain attributes like height and humidity, objects are placed naturally and convincingly.

By integrating terrain generation, environment texturing, and procedural object distribution in one cohesive graph, InstaMAT empowers creators to build richly detailed, believable worlds faster and with more artistic control than ever before.

Next-Level Curves for Artistic Precision and Control

InstaMAT’s new Curves toolset provides artists with sophisticated procedural control over detail creation and patterning. The expansive suite of Curves nodes (scatter, sampler, mapper, filter, transform, warp, weld, and more) enables artists to build complex shapes and patterns procedurally. By controlling attributes such as thickness, color, and height along curve paths, artists can generate intricate designs with a familiar path editor widget.

This comprehensive curve system combines artistic finesse with procedural power, allowing teams to produce complex details faster and with unparalleled flexibility.

Game-Changing Real-Time Rendering and Baking for Complex Materials

InstaMAT’s 3D viewport upgrades represent a leap forward in visual fidelity and user experience. Incorporating real-time raytraced shadows, reflections, global illumination, and translucency brings photorealistic lighting effects that help artists judge materials and scene composition with confidence directly within the editor.

Support for advanced material models such as Sheen, Anisotropic, and Clearcoat expand the range of surfaces artists can visualize accurately from car paints to complex metals and fabrics; this is crucial for high-end automotive, fashion, and product visualization workflows.

Artists can load custom HDRI environment maps to preview assets under their intended lighting conditions while texturing, reducing guesswork and improving asset readiness for final production.

In parallel, InstaMAT’s baking toolkit has been enhanced with two new bakers: Disk Sampling mode for Curvature, which delivers higher-quality curvature maps that support InstaMAT’s generative masks and filters, and Bevel Normals, which generates smooth beveled edges on low-poly models without additional geometry, preserving performance while improving visual polish.

These viewport and baking improvements streamline the artist’s workflow by delivering accurate previews and high-quality maps, enabling faster, more confident iteration.

Stylized Materials, Advanced Filters, and Artistic Workflow Enhancements

InstaMAT 2025 expands creative possibilities with a new library of stylized materials, decals, unique grunges and patterns ideal for stylized art and games. The introduction of a powerful Stylized Filter node enables painterly effects on color and normal maps, unlocking new artistic styles directly within the Element graph.

Workflow improvements include an intuitive drag-and-drop asset workflow that lets artists instantly create decals by dropping images onto the surface of a model. The Paint Projector gains free rotation, scale, and translation controls, giving artists enhanced precision and flexibility when painting stencils or textures. InstaMAT also introduces support for dynamic, data-driven workflows: string information can now be loaded directly from a file using the String from Resource node. This enables reading external text files, like JSON, and parsing them with new built-in nodes, enabling artists and technical users alike to control graph execution from external data sources.

These features combine to boost artistic control and speed, supporting diverse needs from photorealistic renders to stylized visuals.

From InstaMAT to Cloud: Polyverse-Powered Collaboration

InstaMAT 2025’s deep integration with Abstract Polyverse transforms asset management and team collaboration. Artists can instantly upload materials, node graphs, and complete projects from InstaMAT directly to Polyverse’s asset libraries, whether public or private.

Polyverse tracks version histories, allowing teams to review changes, revert to previous versions, and maintain a single source of truth which is critical for collaborative pipelines in game studios, VFX houses, and enterprises. And using Polyverse Sync, all assets are synchronized across all artists’ and developers’ workstations ensuring consistent versioning and material updates across the entire development pipeline. Artists can also upload entire InstaMAT projects to Polyverse to create custom Polytrons. These Polytrons can be executed as microservices in the cloud making asset creation and processing more accessible than ever before. Polytrons can be combined to create full asset processing workflows, then shared across teams to create standardized pipelines across studios and enterprises.

Together, this synergy between InstaMAT and Polyverse boosts productivity and fosters seamless collaboration across distributed teams.

Bringing It All Together with InstaMAT 2025

With this release, InstaMAT introduces powerful new systems for terrain generation, asset placement, and curve-based detailing while continuing to push the boundaries of creativity and efficiency within a unified platform that streamlines 3D asset creation at scale. Enhanced asset texturing with layer references, mask filters, and stylized effects gives artists deep control and flexibility, while a raytraced viewport delivers real-time feedback for high-end 3D asset visualization. Seamless integration with Polyverse enables collaborative asset management and deployment at scale.

InstaMAT 2025 equips teams to author, texture, and deploy production-ready assets—faster, smarter, and more consistently. And Linux support is on the way to broaden platform versatility.
